Wellness Wednesday



In a follow up to my previous post on reading, I wanted to share some of my top reads this past month:

The Atlantic -- This is a fabulous publication. I am ashamed to say I do not often get to read each issue cover to cover as much as I wish I could, but I encourage you to subscribe or at the very least visit their website.
My top reads from The Atlantic of late have been:

  • The Gift of the Daguerreotype

  • The Coddling of the American Mind -- as a therapist and a professor I was fascinated by this article

  • How Friendship Fights Depression -- a brief article and interesting idea about contagion emotion...that if you're depressed, being around many friends with a "healthy mood" can help improve your depressive affect

  • Carbs: A Love Story -- "Duh!" Carbs are good for you and necessary -- not to mention delicious! Read this article and get some science-based info to help you feel better about eating a balanced diet (note the article does mention weight loss & dieting so if you are sensitive to that you may want to skip this one)...best quote from the article: "Americans should end our fixation with—or love of—one macronutrient or another...it takes a combination of protein, plants, and fat to either lose weight or maintain a healthy one."

  • The Existential Satisfaction of Things Fitting Perfectly Into Other Things -- interesting psychological explanation for this phenomenon

  • How Literature Inspires Empathy -- yet another fabulous reason to read

What began as a blog entry to share my current reading list, quickly turned into an ode to The Atlantic. Keep an eye out for more articles, books, and great reading sources in the coming weeks!
